Care Of Cell 115
This 45-hour walking performance is intended to be seen as an actionist memorial to the past of this space as much as a solidaric gesture towards patients still being stationed in Otto Wagner Areal. The two artists, Joseph Sakoilsky and Kata Oelschlägel are incessantly walking in circles within this room while deliberately refraining from human interaction and thereby distancing themselves from the purpose of the Art Fair. "Care of Cell 115" seeks to give the burdened history the relevance it deserves, especially amidst the lively atmosphere of this event.
Additionally, a reference to the social role of the artist is intentionally incorporated. Often, the artist's work moves along the edges of what society would label as psychological pathology.
The black paint symbolizes this pathology. As a condensation and materialization of madness, it is incorporated into the actions, processed, and displayed. It will be the only external element the artists employ.
Their behavior is an expression of genuine emotion, which will intensify as the performance progresses. The digital counter on the wall indicates the hours that have already passed during the performance.
